No, I am not sad.
It started out when I sat down in church yesterday. I said to Derril, "remember the olden days when the bishopric use to stand at the chapel doors and greet you with a handshake as you came into the meeting?". The the idiot sitting in front of me turned and said, "I don't remember the OLDen days".
Is it Christian to smack someone upside the head at church?
Moving right along...
Yesterday in Young Women (Yes, I am still in YW, that should make me sing the blues) the question was asked from the lesson, "what makes you stand out from others or what is different about you that others don't know". Of course I could think of NOTHING. Some of the answers were "I like to read", and .... Most of the answers were along the lines of what a person does or has done that people don't know. I ended up answering that I like to learn. For a while I might study middle eastern politics and then I get bored with that and study health related issues. Then when I am bored with that I move on to something else.
At any rate it got me thinking for a short time about myself and what I have done that maybe others don't know about.
Then when I was reading blogs there were a couple of them that had the list where you cut and paste, then highlight the things on the list that you have accomplished.
Then of all things, this morning when my alarm went off the music that was playing was I NEVER FELT MORE LIKE SINGIN THE BLUES. When I got up to turn off the radio I started dancing. Yep, dancing at 4am.
It has to be an omen that I should list some of my lifes accomplishments.
I don't remember many of the details but when I was little, my 'across the street neighbor', Gay Hardy, taught me and Ruth a dance and baton twirling routine to the song I NEVER FELT MORE LIKE SINGING THE BLUES. We performed it at a local contest or show or something. I remember just a few of the steps and a couple of the baton tosses. A local news personality, Sandy Gibbons, was there too. I didn't even drop my baton. I always dropped it during our practices. So there you have it, my days as a performer. Well, unless you count the girls camp routine where I performed on stage to the song POPCORN POPPING, Elvis style.
Some of the things on the "Just something fun and random" list that I have done:
1. Started my own blog (hello, you're reading it)
2. Slept under the stars, the most memorable was camping at Lee's Ferry. I have NEVER seen so many stars. Oh, Oh, another most memorable was camping in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. There were NO stars or moon. It was so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
3. Played in a band. It was just a school band, but I have marched in a parade. I played the clarinet.
4. Been to Disneyland (wasn't impressed)Oh, and it wasn't on the list but I have also been to Disneyworld.
5. Climbed a mountain. I also did the Bisbee Stair Climb, which was harder than climbing any mountain.
6. Sang a solo, well, not a solo. I'm an alto. But my Mom taught me to sing harmony and I may be wrong but I think the first song we performed was CLOUDS. I thought we were good but it may have just been one of those Little Miss Sunshine moments.
7. Taught yourself an art from scratch. I have done a few oil paintings. There again, Little Miss Sunshine.
8. Adopted a child. He wishes I hadn't, or at least that he weren't.
9. Had food poisoning. Well, it wasn't food poisoning, it was water poisoning. Girls camp (why did I keep going back) and we were actually quarantined until they figured out why we were so sick.
10. Grown my own vegetables. I may be stretching this one. I have grown a FEW vegetables.
11. Hitch hiked. That was on my honeymoon, long story.
12. Seen Old Faithful geyser erupt.
13. Bought a stranger a meal at a restaurant. It wasn't actually a restaurant, it was a walk up window, not the inside sit down part of the restaurant.
14. walked on a beach by moonlight.
15. Gone to a drive in theater. It was called the Silver Dollar and it was located on south Central Ave where the Food City is now located. One of the movies we saw was Million Dollar Duck.
16. Started a business. Another Little Miss Sunshine thing. Confectionatley Yours, and it was a cake decorating business with Rose.
17. Stayed up for 24 hours with NO sleep. That one was several times, once being after I got off work and with a friend we went on a police ride along.
18. Gone whale watching. We drove to San Diego when we lived in Yuma and went with friends.
19. Donated blood. I was a member of the gallon club. Beware, they are like vampires, once you donate, they NEVER leave you alone. They call all the time.
20. Flown in a helicopter. It was as bad as a roller coaster, and I HATE roller coasters. The pilot was a crop duster so he did a few swipes over a field. Up over the power lines, turn, drop down onto the field. I remember he told me that the rotors were there just to keep the pilot cool, because you should see him sweat if they stop spinning.
21. Seen the Grand Canyon in person. I hiked it actually and spent the night in the bottom (see #2)
22. Read the entire Bible (it was the nastiest book I ever read)
23. Had chicken pox. I got them on Easter Sunday and didn't have to go to church that day.
24. Swam in the Great Salt Lake. Well, not really. But I splashed in it.
25. Been involved in a law suit. Small claims, and I learned it doesn't pay to sue an illegal immigrant. Even when you win, if you try to garnish their wages to collect for the damage done to your car, they just change jobs. Never got a dime.
26. Owned a cell phone. One of the originals that was the size of, and heavy as, a BRICK.
There were 99 listed and I have done more than the 26 listed above, but they just really weren't worth mentioning.
But it was fun remembering.
PS-it wasn't on the list BUT I have worn fishnet stockings with go- go boots, and it was NOT a costume. =D
