What a hectic weekend. Isn't the weekend when you are supposed to relax a little? Saturday I made a significant contribution to green house gases. By making not one but two trips to JoAnns. Which all my life I have always thought that Ahwatukee is a different city but is actually city of Phoenix (I learned from my job).
time to dust off the ol sewing machine
The only good part is that the first trip I met Kathy for lunch. She was kind enough to meet me and loan me pioneer clothing for the project I was/am working on. And it was really nice getting to relax and visit with her. We don't do that very often at all. I was making a frontiersman shirt for my friend Bruce. He is going to be the trail boss on our church handcart trek. We had a fireside about the trek last night and Bruce needed to look the part. I thought the shirt turned out really nice. I used a faux suede upholstery fabric.
wish I had gotten a close up but you get the general idea
It had a lace up opening and lots of fringe on shoulders, sleeves, and chest. When I originally bought the fabric I had not allowed enough for the fringe so my first trip to JoAnn's I bought an extra 1/4 yard. Then when I was working on the shirt I realized I didn't have any eyelets for the lace up front. Therefore a second trip was called for. I probably spent more on gas then the cost of the shirt. Which truth be told only cost a little over $12. Which I thought was great seeing as how the real buckskin one on the internet was $375. Sunday I had to teach the Young Women class at church. Luckily I had been studying the lesson during the week at work. But I don't think you can ever study enough. And on top of that we had the trek fireside for which I had to have a display table. Plus the clothing packets for 9 wards. I didn't start working on that until Sunday morning. I had to write up and print out the clothing guidelines for the trek. Trace and cut bonnet patterns and instructions for 9 wards, which I put into individual zip lock bags. It doesn't sound like much but it took me ALL day. And I barely got to the fireside on time.
my display took up two tables
I took a deep sigh of relief when I got home and snuggled down into bed for a good nights sleep. But alas had bad dreams all night long. (shouldn't have eaten that peach cobbler at the fireside).
