MEETING IBIS 4-8-08

Let's start on Saturday 4-5-08. We went to Mexico. Didn't leave as early as I wanted since I was lazy and slept in till 5. But we did finally take off and had our typical vacation breakfast at Burger King. Clayton missed out on that though. He went in his own car. Plus he invited a friend to tag along. As we passed the Marine Base in Yuma, which is right in the middle of the sandy dry ugly desert I realized why Nick signed on with the Air Force. I think he lives half a mile from the BEACH. Driving through the ghettos of San Luis just made me want to squish Ibis in a box and take her home with me. Kyle and Ibis house was very pleasant though. The house is built in a U shape with the open end of the U toward the back yard. One side of the U is their living quarters and the other side of the U is a strip of 3 bedrooms with a bathroom on the end. So it was like sleeping in a little hotel. When we arrived at about 1pm it was instant embrace. I actually felt like I already knew Ibis since talking to her on the computer camera. I was very comfortable around her. Like Callie said, we already loved her. She is very sweet and has a cute personality.

trying to take a passport foto-no smiles allowed but I think Kyle is tickling her
Kyle and Ibis had just gone to the grocery before we arrived. Ibis made us a delicious lunch of fish, vegetables and salad. She did a good job especially with the little equipment she had available to use. I made a list of things to get for her to send next weekend with Kyle.

After lunch we visited and then Derril, Clayton, and Aaron (the friend) decided to go find the beach. We all wanted to go but decided to send the guys as an exploration party. Supposedly the beach is just 20 minutes away so we told them if they got back in 40 minutes than we would all go. Two and a half hours later they got back and we said "ain't no way". Of course Derril said he went to the wrong place and that if he had gone the other way it probably was only 20 to 30 minutes but by then it was dark. Of course while he was gone (in Clayton's car) I discovered that the van had a flat tire. What is vacation without a little car trouble. We were all visiting in the living room when I realized Derril was not with us. I went to check on him and he was outside changing the tire on the van. It was totally dark. I couldn't even see him but took this picture just by pointing it where I thought he might be located. The flash made it a totally good picture.

It amazes me that Derril can change a tire, like place the jack, remove the lug nuts and change the whole thing just by feel. But truely that is what he did. We got a good nights sleep in our little hotel rooms and then got up and left early. I said a quiet goodbye to Kyle and Ibis and then we hit the road. Had breakfast in Yuma and then made it all the way to 83rd Ave and Buckeye before we had to call the tow truck. Callie and I wused out and called Clayton who had already made it home. He came and picked us up and Derril had to wait for the tow truck by himself. The front bearing went out on the van. Callie and I made it home for the last 3 talks of conference. But we did TiVo everything and are now in the process of catching up on conference.
