PARABLE OF THE SHOE 9-18-08

I have had this on my mind off and on since it happened about 17 years ago. Since this past Sunday it has been on my mind daily. Probably because of a lesson in Sunday School. People have commented to me before about what I did that my children turned out the way they have. I always told people that they came to me that way. Believe me, I learn a lot more from them then they will ever learn from me. On with the story: When Clayton was about 2 1/2 maybe 3 years old I remember very vividly sitting on the sofa in the living room. I don't remember why I was sitting or what I was doing. Probably holding a baby. Clayton was sitting on the floor trying to put his high top shoes on. Struggling and struggling. He has always had a very low threshold for anger and was getting madder and madder. I sat watching him very calmly with the thought of "now why doesn't he just ask me to help him with that". When another thought entered my mind. "Is that what Heavenly Father does?". Does he watch from his throne on high and think, "now why doesn't she just ask me to help her with that?". I believe Heavenly Father is always ready to help but has to wait for us to ask. I think he allows us to struggle so we learn that we can't do it on our own. Our struggles humble us to the necessary point of realization that we need help beyond our mortal capabilities. I KNOW that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and answers my prayers. And I love him with all my heart. Some may ask how I know of someone I can't see? Faith! Explain faith? I guess I can explain faith about as well as I can explain love. You have to experience it to know.
